FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA, Mar. 5, 1998 --With two critically acclaimed CD's available worldwide, appearances on over half a dozen compilations (including several put out by the excellent label Cleopatra Records), standout shows in London and Mexico City, and a recent U.S. tour under their belt, The Last Dance have proven that they are a musical force to be reckoned with. Now, with Staring At The Sky (Do You Believe In Singles), their first new release in two years, the band once again show why they are swiftly becoming one of the most popular and exciting acts in the modern music scene.
Staring At The Sky represents a bold move for The Last Dance in several ways. Not satisfied with the idea of merely re-releasing a proven hit, throwing in some obscure B-Sides and maybe a remix or two, and then packaging it up as a new release, the band decided to come out with a CD that would represent the best of where they've been, document the progress and growth of the last two years, and provide a glimpse into the future. Combining the haunting and sinewy guitar lines, passionate and heart-felt vocals and high energy rhythms that are their sonic trademark with lush keyboard textures, electronic music and a high quality digital recording that captures every nuance of the music, Staring At The Sky is sure to please longtime fans of the band as well as gain them some new converts and maybe even win over a skeptic or two.
All in all, Staring At The Sky contains 8 new recordings; including 4 very different versions of Do You Believe In Angels, the bands most popular song to date. First released on the 1995 mini CD "Tragedy", this perennial crowd favorite is one of the standout tracks on the Cleopatra Records box set The Goth Box, and is a regular on college radio and club DJ playlists. It was the obvious choice when the concept of a Singles CD was first brought up. Two of the versions, the EuroDance Mix (Already being played by some of the hottest West Coast DJ's) and the Screaming Kitty Mix are sure to become hits on the dance floor with their driving dance rhythms and heavy bass, while Violets' Song and the Falling Star Mix both set more intimate and romantic moods. Longtime friend and band associate Erik Kane offers up a radical reworking of the song Inside. His very hip and danceable Kane remix is everything a good remix should be, as it takes the song in a completely new direction yet maintains the integrity of the original vision. Mark Hofmann of Apollyon Records, the bands European label, and without who's help and support none of this would be possible, has pushed Tragedy's War into the new millenium with his industrial flavored remix. Rounding it all out are two brand new songs, Flesh, and Mystery, both of which are as much classic TLD as they are a brave leap into new territory.
With release scheduled for early May of 1998, Staring At The Sky is sure to open up many eyes to the possibilities and potential of this dynamic and ever-evolving band, and will undoubtedly become one of the must-have CD's of the year! A limited number of advanced promotional copies will be made available by the band to interested DJ's, Booking Agents, and Promoters.
